Keith’s note: NASA released this video “We are the explorers” today. If you go to the 1:25 mark you will see an astronaut in the cupola observation port on the International Space Station. In the lower left hand corner you will see a rectangluar object. This is the plaque containing a piece of the summit of Mt Everest and an Apollo 11 moon rock – carried to the summit of Everest by Explorers Club Fellow, Astronaut, and M.D. Scott Parazysnki in May 2009 (photo). I carried the Moon rock to Everest Base Camp. Along the way, I managed to pose in a photo with a statue of Sir Edmund Hillary at the Hillary School. Hillary and Neil Armstrong were friends and went to the North Pole together in the 1970s.
