NASA Will Leave Mars Samples in Orbit Following “Orderly Shutdown” of Sample Return Program
The Capture, Containment, and Return System is part of the multi-mission Mars Sample Return program being planned by NASA and European Space Agency (ESA).

NASA has begun reducing work related to its Mars Sample Return (MSR) program due to uncertainties about mission funding for next year. That includes an “orderly shutdown” of the Capture, Containment and Return System (CCRS) — the aspect of the mission focused on flying retrieved Martian samples to Earth — agency officials told SpaceRef.
