The unpiloted ISS Progress 40 supply vehicle departs from the International Space Station at 7:43 p.m. (EST) on Jan. 23, 2011. Filled with trash and discarded items, Progress 40 will be used for scientific experiments until it is deorbited and burned up in Earth’s atmosphere. Its departure clears the way for the arrival of the next Russian resupply vehicle, ISS Progress 41, which is scheduled to launch at 8:31 p.m. (EST) on Jan. 27 and dock to the space station on Jan. 29, delivering three tons of food, fuel and supplies for the Expedition 26 crew.
