NASA FISO Presentation: Promoting American Spaceflight – The Analogy of the U.S. Antarctic Program
Now available is the March 11, 2015 NASA Future In-Space Operations (FISO) telecon material. The speaker was James Spiller (University of Brckport SUNY) who discussed “Promoting American Spaceflight: The Analogy of the U.S. Antarctic Program”.
Jamie Spiller is Dean of the Graduate School and teaches modern United States history at The College at Brockport, SUNY. He has special scholarly interests in science, technology, environment, and politics, which inform his forthcoming summer 2015 book Frontiers for the American Century: Outer Space, Antarctica, and Cold War Nationalism. A longtime outdoor educator who fantasized about rugged Antarctic climbing, Jamie has come to terms with unfulfilled dreams. Instead, he traveled twice to Antarctica in relative comfort aboard tourist-equipped science vessels with study abroad students. He wonders if Virgin Galactic might be interested in discounting a study abroad excursion for him and some students to low earth orbit.
