Large Avalanche Above the Khumbu Icefall Near Everest Base Camp

Avalanches are common in these parts but Saturday’s was one of the largest this season – and it happened near Everest base camp at the lower West Shoulder and crashed into the lower Khumbu Icefall. No one was injured or killed by this avalanche. Only ice dust or “spindrift” made it to base camp.
