Next week (12-13 October) the Beyond Earth Institute will hold its inaugural (henceforth annual) forum “The Beyond Earth Symposium” in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid event so you can either beam down or beam in and participate.

To set the stage for the event, the organizers state that “Human expansion into space, leading eventually to large space-based communities, is rapidly becoming a reality and requires the focused engagement of space policy and legal professionals. The Beyond Earth Institute contends that good policy must lead, not follow, the development of human spaceflight and habitation.”

With that in mind, they picked one of the least conventional / most creative space professionals to serve as honorary chair: Simon “Pete” Worden, (Brig. Gen., USAF, Ret., PhD, University of Arizona), Chairman, Breakthrough Prize Foundation, and former Director of NASA Ames Research Center.

So … with Pete speaking, the event’s opening will not be boring. Promise.

The speakers are an actual, no kidding, who’s who of space policy. The agenda lists who will be speaking. Session topics range from commercial space stations and human spaceflight safety to the emerging cislunar ecosystem and the financing that is needed for it to thrive.

Tickets can be purchased here.
