41 years ago today, 14 December 1972, Lunar Module “Challenger” in lunar orbit before rendezvous with the Apollo 17 Command Module “America”.
While astronauts Eugene A. Cernan, commander, and Harrison H. Schmitt, lunar module pilot, descended in the Challenger to explore the Taurus-Littrow region of the moon, astronaut Ronald E. Evans, command module pilot, remained with the CSM “America” in lunar orbit.
