After rapid intensification overnight, Hurricane Barbara is poised to cross the Mexico coastline near Tonala in Chiapas State.
Weakening should be rapid later today and tonight as the cyclone interacts with the mountainous terrain of southeastern Mexico. Barbara is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 4 to 8 inches over eastern Oaxaca and western Chiapas with isolated amounts of 12 inches possible. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides. This image was taken by GOES East at 1815Z on May 29, 2013.
