– NASA Highlights Astrophysics Discoveries at American Astronomical Society Meeting
NASA researchers will present a wide range of new astrophysics findings at the 225th meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS). The AAS meeting runs Sunday, Jan. 4 through Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015 at the Washington State Convention Center, 800 Convention Place, Seattle. Media registration for the event is open. All briefings will be streamed on AAS’s website and accessible to registered journalists. NASA scientists and their colleagues will present briefings on noteworthy discoveries, including newly-validated exoplanets, an interesting X-ray phenomenon from the black hole in our Milky Way, and never-seen-before images.

– SpaceX Falcon 9 Launch of ISS CRS-5 (11:18 GMT – 6:18 a.m. EST)
Launching from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. the SpaceX Commercial Resupply Services Flight (CRS-5) will deliver cargo and crew supplies to the International Space Station. It will also carry CATS, a laser instrument to measure clouds and the location and distribution of pollution, dust, smoke, and other particulates in the atmosphere.

– 12th Meeting of the NASA Small Bodies Assessment Group
The 12th NASA SBAG (Small Bodies Assessment Group) meeting will be held January 6-7, 2015, in Tempe. The Small Bodies Assessment Group (SBAG) is NASA’s community-based forum designed to provide science input for planning and prioritizing the exploration of small bodies throughout the Solar System for the next several decades. It also provides input on how small bodies can be utilized in support of human space activities.

The next Future In-Space Operations (FISO) telecon colloquium will be Wednesday, January 7, when we will host Jim Bredt (MIT/Viridis3D)), who will speak on “Additive Manufacturing in Space.”
– NASA Cube Quest Challenge Summit
The Cube Quest Challenge, sponsored by NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate Centennial Challenge Program, offers a total of $5 million to teams that meet the challenge objectives of designing, building and delivering flight-qualified, small satellites capable of advanced operations near and beyond the moon. NASA TV coverage of grapple begins at 4:30 a.m. EST with grapple at approximately 6:00 a.m. EST. Berthing with the ISS is scheduled for at 8:15 a.m. EST.
