Former NASA Administrator Dan Goldin will be questioned by representatives of the Columbia Accident Investigation Board (CAIB) behind closed doors – possibly as soon as this coming week as the CAIB wraps up its efforts in Texas. Goldin has been aware of this looming session for several weeks and has reportedly retained legal counsel to advise him.

Sources also tell NASA Watch that Goldin made an attempt earlier this year to gain access to files now in storage at NASA and that he was subsequently denied access to these files. Goldin was told that a FOIA request would be required in order to gain such access.

Meanwhile, CAIB staff have been perusing government records looking at interactions between NASA and OMB in the development of NASA’s annual budgets over the past decade or so. Details to follow.
