TOP NEWS
Partnerships between government agencies have led to major improvements in
weather forecasting and climate monitoring, but new technologies are often slow
to be adopted by, or may never reach, those who could use them, says a new
report from the National Academies’ Space Studies Board. Given the cost of
research satellites and weather and climate services and the increasing role of
space-based sensors, the federal government should work to accelerate the rate
of return on those investments. NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration should establish a joint office to plan, coordinate and support
the application of new meteorological research to standard practices.
