Welcome to Sun Earth Day 2008- Space Weather Around the World!
From: Elaine Lewis
To SED educators, scientists and amateur astronomers:
Welcome to Sun Earth Day 2008- Space Weather Around the World!
Over the past seven years, NASA’s Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum has sponsored and coordinated education and public outreach events to highlight NASA’s Sun-Earth Connection research and discoveries. Our strategy involves using celestial events, such as total solar eclipses and the Transit of Venus, as well as Sun-Earth Day during the March Equinox, to engage K-12 schools and the general public in space science activities, demonstrations, and interactions with space scientists. This coordinated approach promotes multiple programs occurring each year under a common theme.
We are looking forward to another exciting and informative year. This year we will focus on the International Heliophysical Year- ‘Space Weather Around the World’. On March 20, 2008 we will feature the use of solar energy for our needs on Earth and in space. On August 1st we will feature “Our Sun” and mission research during a Total Solar Eclipse from China, bringing you another webcast through a partnership with the Exploratorium.
Our new website features new resources and continual updates: http://sunearthday.nasa.gov
One new feature is a Calendar of Events, including Local Happenings. Please send me information about your plans for Sun-Earth Day – ‘Space Weather Around the World’ so I can include those within the calendar for 2007-2008. I will need the following information:
