SUBJECT: Tour de Ames Bicycle Race and Fun Ride, April 22

On April 22, 2009, Earth Day, the Protective Services Office, in conjunction with The Ames Bicycle Club, Open Ames, DART and the Ames Exchange, will be hosting the first annual Tour de Ames Kermesse (Bicycle Race) and Fun Ride. Join other bicycle enthusiasts, including some of our more note-worthy bikyklostists from building 200, as we trek the 8-mile course via the perimeter roads of Ames Moffett.

The event will take place from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. The gathering point for the event will be at the Ellis Gate parking lot. For the more serious bicycle enthusiasts, the “race” will start at 12:15 p.m. For those who want to take a more leisurely ride, the start time will be around 12:20 p.m. It is requested that all participants arrive at the Ellis Gate parking lot by 12:00 p.m.

Participants will need to sign in and listen to a five-minute safety briefing. All bikes will need to undergo a quick safety inspection and, of course, all participants will need to wear a proper helmet. Additionally, it is recommended that participants bring sunscreen and water. Water will be provided at several locations along the route as well.

All Ames and Moffett employees are invited to participate.
