Terra Weekly Mission Status Update January 24 – 30, 2003
The Terra spacecraft is in nominal mode. All instruments are in Science Mode.
The modified Direct Broadcast (X-band) turn-off policy over the Canberra Deep
Space Network (DSN) site negotiated with JPL remains in effect to facilitate the
rapid acquisition of MODIS data over central Australia. The data are increasingly
important in wildfire hotspot detection in areas including the Canberra region.
The new policy turns off X-band modulation only when DSN contacts are scheduled
while Terra is in the line-of-sight between DSN and specific X-band DSN user
spacecraft.
TERRA PLANS:
- Execute MODIS calibration lunar roll maneuver on February 20, 2003
- Continue planning for eventual execution of Deep Space and Lunar Calibration Maneuvers.
