STScI: Job Opportunity for Media Relations Specialist in Astronomy

The Space Telescope Science Institute’s Office of Public Outreach is currently seeking a Media Relations Specialist who will be responsible for identifying, writing, and placing science results from the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) observatories including the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).

STScI is the science operations center for HST and the science and mission operations center for JWST. The Office of Public Outreach produces products and services that are the backbone of the news, education, and public outreach efforts for the missions. The achievements of the office helped to make HST one of the most universally recognized scientific endeavors.

A key responsibility of the candidate will be to participate in communicating HST & JWST science objectives and impact to the general public. The responsibilities will also include management of news requests for interviews and visits to STScI for onsite videography. The position also requires organizing news events at national conferences as well as advancing print, online and social media news networks. The Media Relations Specialist works to disseminate new space science research findings to make society aware and informed about astronomy’s scientific advances.
