Description

NASA/Johnson Space Center (JSC) has a requirement for the development of educational content and administration of the STS-118 Informal Educators and Trainers Workshop. This conference is to be held in Houston June 4-5, 2007, for 30 NASA Museum Alliance Member Education Specialists.

NASA/JSC intends to purchase this workshop from Space Center Houston (SCH) on a sole source basis. Specific features of STS-118’s educational content are a plant growth chamber engineering design challenge, a pennant design experience, and the Fit Explorer which challenges students to physically train like astronauts.

SCH offers unique knowledge in space plant growth as they have a NASA excessed plant growth chamber which is maintained by a space farming expert. SCH also has a Living in Space exhibit which demonstrates the unique environment astronauts reside in on-orbit aboard the International Space Station. SCH’s current programs and unique knowledge directly tie into the goals and objectives of STS-118 educational challenges. SCH also provides programs unique to the Space Exploration experience that feature space flight hardware simulation activities and educational programs specific to the Vision for Space Exploration.

Market research indicates that SCH is the only known source capable of providing the specific services to meet NASA/JSC’s STS-118 educational content requirements.

The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
