Station and Shuttle Crews Transfer Cargo
Cargo transfers continue to dominate the STS-114 and Expedition 11 crews’ workday. The nine crewmembers have been unloading supplies and equipment from the Raffaello Multi-Purpose Logistics Module, which is attached to the Station’s Unity Module.
The other major task today is preparation for Monday’s spacewalk by Mission Specialists Stephen Robinson and Soichi Noguchi. The hatches between Space Shuttle Discovery and the Station are slated close before the crews go to sleep today in order to lower pressure in the Shuttle. The lower pressure allows the spacewalkers to become gradually acclimated to the lower pressures of the spacesuits. The spacewalk is slated to begin at 4:14 a.m. EDT.
Crewmembers took time out of their busy schedule this morning to answer questions from ABC News, Fox News and NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Later, they talked with CBS News, CNN and the Discovery Channel.
Mission managers announced Saturday that Discovery’s scheduled stay at the Station has been extended one day. The additional day, which will be added after the day of the third spacewalk, gives the crews more transfer time.
