Space Station Expedition 7 Talks to Space Campers in Turkey
U.S. and Russian flight controllers are not the only humans who can make radio contact with International Space Station Expedition crews. Amateur radio operators have been making contact with station crews for the last two years.
During its stay on the ISS, the Expedition 7 crew has been making contact with students throughout the world. On July 14, Expedition 7 NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu talked to 20 space campers at Space Center Turkey. The campers, representing five countries, asked Lu questions about life on the ISS.
The contact was sponsored by an organization called ARISS, which stands for Amateur Radio on the International Space Station. Other ARISS contacts for the Expedition 7 crew include sessions with students at Klem South School of Webster, N.Y., and space campers at the Euro Space Center in Belgium.
