Space Station Crew Replaces Treadmill Parts
Tuesday, Expedition 7 Commander Yuri Malenchenko and NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu completed maintenance work on the International Space Station’s treadmill. Their work included replacing roller bearing assemblies in the treadmill.
On the science front, Lu continued preparations for upcoming work with the Pore Formation and Mobility Investigation, or PFMI, experiment. PFMI is a material science experiment in which scientists hope “to gain insights that will improve solidification processing in a microgravity environment.” The experiment runs will take place in the Microgravity Science Glovebox. Malenchenko conducted a session with a Russian medical experiment that is studying body fluid reaction in microgravity.
The crewmembers also performed their daily activities, including maintenance and their exercise regimen.
