TARGET KSC LANDING DATE/TIME: Oct. 21, 2000 at about 3:55 p.m.
LAUNCH WINDOW: No more than 5 minutes
MISSION DURATION: 10 days, 20 hours and 11 minutes

ORBITAL ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 177 nautical miles/51.6 degrees
Completed Shuttle Processing: At 9 a.m. this morning, mission managers
postponed for 24 hours today’s launch attempt of Space Shuttle Discovery due
to high winds at Launch Pad 39A. Winds at the pad were as high as 44.6
knots, exceeding a limit of 42 knots. Due to the higher than allowable
winds, the GOX (Gaseous Oxygen) vent arm or “beanie cap” could not be
extended over the External Tank in time to begin tanking operations to
support a launch attempt today. As a result, tanking operations never began
and the launch has been rescheduled for 7:40 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10.
The pad’s rotating service structure will remain away from the Shuttle as
managers and engineers prepare to recycle the countdown clock to resume
counting at about 4:45 a.m. tomorrow at the T-11 hour mark.
Weather forecasters are currently forecasting similar conditions tomorrow
and are indicating a 70 percent chance that weather could violate launch
constraints. Tomorrow, winds at the pad surface will be 15-20 knots, clouds
will be scattered to broken at 3,000 feet, and no precipitation is forecast.
The weather forecast for Wednesday indicates a 40 percent chance of weather
constraint violation. The 48-hour scrub turnaround forecast indicates a 30
percent chance of violation.
