Work in progress: Endeavour’s prelaunch propellant loading began yesterday
at Launch Pad 39A. Loading of oxidizer into the orbiter’s onboard storage
tanks is complete, and fuel loading begins Saturday morning following this
week’s Terminal Countdown Demonstration Test. The flight crew arrived at
KSC yesterday at about 4 p.m. to participate in routine TCDT activities.
Along with the flight crew’s launch day dress rehearsal on Friday, Shuttle
engineers will conduct a planned year 2000 test on ground, flight and
vehicle systems to confirm their readiness to support mission operations.
Many of the standard TCDT procedures will satisfy the Y2K test requirements,
but additional steps will be executed following TCDT conclusion at 11 a.m.
The Y2K test concludes Friday afternoon. Orbiter aft compartment close-outs
begin Thursday.

Work in progress: Last week workers replaced Atlantis’ window No. 3, and
Monday technicians completed checks on Atlantis’ robot arm. Wiring
inspections and repairs continue to go very well in Atlantis’ midbody and
aft compartments. Functional testing of the orbiter maneuvering system pod
continues, and servicing of freon coolant loop No. 2 occurs this week.

Work in progress: Removal of Discovery’s main engines began Tuesday night
and concluded yesterday. Removal of the STS-103 payload from Discovery’s
cargo bay concluded Monday. Hypergolic deservicing of the orbiter
maneuvering system begins tomorrow. Inspection of Discovery’s landing gear
and tire removal will conclude this week.
