MISSION: STS-109 – HST Servicing Mission 3B

VEHICLE: Columbia/OV-102

TARGET KSC LAUNCH DATE: Feb. 28, 2002 at 6:48 a.m.

TARGET KSC LANDING DATE: March 11, 2002 at 3:33 a.m.

MISSION DURATION: 11 days

CREW: Altman, Carey, Grunsfeld, Currie, Newman, Linnehan, Massimino

ORBITAL INSERTION ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 308 nautical miles/28.5 degrees

Shuttle Processing Note: Servicing of the hypergolic oxidizer propellants on board Shuttle Columbia was interrupted at Pad A early today due to the failure of a poppet in the Fill and Drain Quick Disconnect (QD) located near the right-hand Orbiter Maneuvering System (OMS) pod. The poppet is an insert that opens and closes the QD. The poppet is being replaced and status of the QD is being assessed. Pending the assessment, Shuttle managers plan to resume oxidizer servicing later today and complete fuel loading on Friday. The Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) hot fire is scheduled for Saturday, and the Hubble payload will be delivered to the pad early next week. The QD problem is not expected to impact Columbia’s planned Feb. 28 launch date.

MISSION: STS-110 – 13th ISS Flight (8A) – ITS SO TRUSS AND MOBILE TRANSPORTER

ORBITAL INSERTION ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 122 nautical miles/51.6 degrees

Shuttle Processing Note: Shuttle Atlantis is undergoing pre-launch operations in the
Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF). The right-hand OMS pod has been removed, and the status of the 14 bolt holes in attach point No. 5 is being assessed. Repairs will be made as necessary. Integrated hydraulic/flight control checkout is in work and preparations are under way to install the heat shield.
