Space Shuttle Processing Status 1 May 2001
MISSION: STS-100 – 9th ISS Flight (6A) -Raffaello MPLM, SSRMS
VEHICLE: Endeavour/OV-105
LOCATION: Edwards Air Force Base, California
KSC LAUNCH DATE/TIME: Apr. 19, 2001 at 2:41 p.m. EDT
LANDING DATE/TIME: May 1, 2001 at 12:11 p.m.
MISSION DURATION: 11 days, 12 hours and 30 minutes
CREW: Rominger, Ashby, Hadfield, Parazynski, Phillips, Guidoni, Lonchakov
ORBITAL INSERTION ALTITUDE and INCLINATION: 173 nautical miles/51.6 degrees
Shuttle Processing Note: Space Shuttle Endeavour landed safely today on
Runway 22 at Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB), Calif., at 12:11 p.m. EDT.
Unacceptable weather conditions at KSC prevented a Florida landing. The
seven-member flight crew will remain overnight at EAFB and depart for
Houston, Texas, Wednesday morning.
With KSC conditions not expected to improve over the next few days and winds
at EAFB expected to increase through the week, mission managers took
advantage of the excellent weather on Edwards’ first landing opportunity.
Endeavour’s main landing gear touched down at 12:10:42 p.m., the nose
landing gear touched down at 12:10:53 p.m., and the orbiter came to a
complete stop at 12:11:56 p.m. completing a 4.9-million mile journey.
Manager’s expect Endeavour’s deservicing and reactant offloading to proceed
through Friday. By Sunday, technicians should begin orbiter closeouts and
preparations to mate Endeavour to NASA’s Shuttle Carrier Aircraft No. 905.
Once orbiter turnaround efforts are complete, the transcontinental Shuttle
ferry flight to KSC could begin as early as May 8.
Preliminary plans have the orbiter/SCA refueling at Dyess Air Force Base in
Abilene, Texas and then stopping for an overnight stay at Eglin Air Force
Base near Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. If all goes as planned, Endeavour could
return to KSC as early as May 9. The schedule and flight path of any ferry
flight is dependant upon weather conditions and daylight en route and are
likely to change.
