The next transmission of the ESA TV Service will be:
21-Nov-01 11:00 – 12:00 GMT
Space astronomy – ESA and GMES – Envisat & floods
ESA TV Footage
Background information on the transmission:
Background information on the 3 items:
1) Space Astonomy
11:00-11:15 GMT
Astronomy with orbiting telescopes has established itself as an indispensable branch of modern astronomy. European missions have contributed to fascinating discoveries and enabled scientists to look deep into space and back to the very origin of the Universe. This Exchanges programme focuses on the ESA/NASA Hubble Space Telescope, the XMM/Newton Observatory as well as the fascinating observatories ESA is currently developing. The 6-minute A-roll contains split audio with an English guide track and is complemented by a B-roll.

The A-roll can be watched as Real Video from http://esa.capcave.com:8080/ramgen/astronomy_10112001_low.rm
2) ESA and GMES
11:15-11:30 GMT
The primary goal of GMES (Global Monitoring for Environment and Security) is to establish coherent, operational, long-term and user-dedicated information systems. Each of these will be designed to meet the specific needs of a user community for which space-based Earth observation data is of potential value. This transmission outlines the raison-d’Ítre for the GMES initiative and provides examples for the successful use of Earth observation data in operational applications.
The 7-minute A-roll contains split audio with an English guide track and is complemented by a B-roll with interviews in clean international sound.

3) Envisat and Flooding
11:30-11:45 GMT
This transmission is the fifth of eight ESA TV Exchange Programmes on Envisat’s science and application promises.
When dealing with large floods, using satellite data has an advantage over aircraft data. The flood group within the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Ispra (Italy) is using satellite data to study the extent of floods, in crisis and post crisis situations. This transmission gives an overview of this work and how Envisat will contribute to the work of this group, in the future.
The 5-minute A-roll contains split audio with an English guide track and is complemented by a B-roll with two interviews in clean international sound.
