Science, Maintenance and Cargo Transfers for Space Station Crew

Science continues onboard the ISS as the Expedition 7 crewmembers photographed selected targets on Earth. The Crew Earth Observation images can be viewed at http://eol.jsc.nasa.gov and http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov. Other experiments under way include the Investigating the Structure of Paramagnetic Aggregates from Colloidal Emulsions experiment, or InSpace and a Russian plant experiment.

Maintenance activities kept Commander Yuri Malenchenko and NASA ISS Science Officer Ed Lu busy. Malenchenko performed his daily check of the Zvezda Service Module’s environmental control and life support system. Lu prepared exercise data recorded from workout equipment for downlink to Earth. Also, Lu rebooted the station’s portable computer system, a weekly task on the ISS.

Ongoing cargo transfers proceed as Malenchenko and Lu unpack gear from the Progress spacecraft docked to the Pirs Docking Compartment since June 11. The crew unloaded water, clothes, office supplies, replacement parts and experiment gear. Also, fuel will be pumped from the Progress to the Zvezda’s tanks.
