(Appendix B.6) and LWS TR&T: Strategic Capability (Appendix B.7) are being moved to ROSES-13.

The goal of NASA’s Living With a Star (LWS) Program is to develop the scientific understanding needed for the United States to effectively address those aspects of Heliophysics science that may affect life and society. The LWS Targeted Research and Technology (TR&T) program element solicits proposals leading to a physics-based understanding of the integral system linking the Sun to the Solar System, including the impact on the heliosphere, planetary magnetospheres, and ionospheres.

The Heliophysics Living With a Star (LWS) programs in Appendix B.6, Targeted Research and Technology (TR&T), and Appendix B.7, Targeted Research and Technology strategic capability, which were presented as placeholders on release of ROSES 2012 in mid-February, will not be solicited this year. They will be solicited together as Appendix B.6 of ROSES-13, not ROSES-12. Draft text for next year’s version of Appendix B.6 is presented with this Amendment in ROSES 2012 as a courtesy to potential proposers. NASA Anticipates that selections will still be announced near the end of fiscal year 2013.

On or about December 3, 2012, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement “Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2012” (NNH12ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ and will appear on the RSS feed at: http://nasascience.nasa.gov/researchers/sara/grant-solicitations/roses-2012.

Questions concerning Appendix B.6 and B.7 may be addressed to Madhulika Guhathakurta Heliophysics Division, Science Mission Directorate, NASA Headquarters, Washington, DC 20546-0001. Telephone: (202) 358-1992; E-mail: lws.trt@nasa.gov.
