This amendment announces a new proposal opportunity in Appendix B.10 entitled “Guest Investigator Studies with C/NOFS.” The Guest Investigator Studies with the Communication Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) program solicits multiple-year investigations that draw extensively upon the data sets from the Air Force C/NOFS satellite and the NASA-provided Coupled Ion Neutral Dynamic Investigation (CINDI) instrument on C/NOFS. This program is intended to maximize the scientific return from this mission by providing support for research of a breadth and complexity beyond presently funded investigations.

This program element emphasizes the use of data from C/NOFS and CINDI. Investigations using data from multiple spacecraft and investigations addressing global system problems are of special interest. Investigations may also use theory and modeling to carry out the associated interpretative data analysis. The use of such collaborative data is appropriate if it is clearly demonstrated that the proposed research will rely primarily upon data from C/NOFS and CINDI.

Notices of Intent to propose are due September 19, 2008. Proposals are due October 17, 2008.

On or about July 25, 2008, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement “Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2008” (NNH08ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at http://nspires.nasaprs.com/ (select “Solicitations” then “Open Solicitations” then “NNH08ZDA001N”).
