The Progress M-48 transport cargo vehicle has been put into a near-earth orbit. The start of the vehicle as part of the Soyuz-U/Progress M-48 rocket-space complex is performed from the Baikonur cosmodrome at 05:47:59 Moscow Summer time.
The launch objective is to deliver needed cargoes to the International Space Station (ISS) to continue its functioning. The launch is performed in line with the Russian party commitments on the ISS project and its flight program.
