The Lunar Exploration Analysis Group (LEAG) is seeking applications for up to six open positions starting in August 2020.

LEAG is responsible for providing scientific and technical analysis needed for the planning and prioritization of U.S. lunar exploration activities. LEAG provides analysis in response to requests from United States government organizations, including NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate, Science Mission Directorate, and Space Technology Mission Directorate, and the Committees of the NASA Advisory Council. LEAG also maintains the Lunar Exploration Roadmap and provides regular forums for broad discussion of lunar exploration science, technology, commerce, and operational issues.

The LEAG Executive Committee organizes LEAG meetings, writes LEAG findings, and takes a leadership role in other activities where community input on topics of interest is needed. Appointments are for either two- or three-year terms, such that roll-off is staggered. LEAG seeks to have an Executive Committee that is as diverse as the community, in terms of factors such as career stage, demographics, type of employer, and area of expertise. In particular, we are currently seeking members who can help lead in the following areas:

Lunar Science – Represent the interests of researchers in the lunar science community, work to build consensus on lunar science priorities, develop documentation of LEAG science goals.

Technology – Provide input on lunar technology maturity and priorities for key technology developments (e.g., night survival and operation, surface power, in situ resource utilization) needed to enable lunar science and exploration goals.

Human Exploration – Stay abreast of developments in human exploration of the Moon with a focus on how lunar science can best enable exploration, and exploration can enable science; develop strategies for a sustainable lunar surface presence; update the Lunar Exploration Roadmap as needed.

Commercial – Foster connections and synergies between the commercial lunar sector through the LEAG Commercial Advisory Board and the broader lunar community in pursuit of a thriving cislunar economy.

Early Career Secretary – To help develop the next generation of leaders, LEAG also solicits an Early Career Secretary whose role will be to help the Executive Committee maintain records of meetings and facilitate logistics related to Special Action Teams.

If you are interested in serving on the LEAG Executive Committee, please email Brett Denevi (Brett.Denevi@jhuapl.edu) by 19 June 2020. Include a short statement describing why you are interested in joining the committee, and a two-page CV.

Thank you,

Brett Denevi for the LEAG Executive Committee
