NASA Space Biology and GeneLab are seeking inputs to design omics reference experiments needed by the Space Life Sciences community. February 5th, 2016 will be your last chance to provide initial guidance to NASA on this community-designed experiment. Community inputs will be used to establish a Science Definition Team (SDT) to design one or more reference experiments/investigations for the International Space Station. After the experiment, the raw data will be posted online at the NASA GeneLab data repository website (http://genelab.nasa.gov/) as part of NASA’s open science initiative. It is anticipated that the results will be used to issue open solicitations for proposals from the science community for further bioinformatics analysis.

The full text of the RFI and Response Instructions, as well as a copy of the specific questions NASA would like answered, can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/NNH16ZTT001L. Responses must be submitted electronically using the NSPIRES web site. This RFI is open to responses from all parties including commercial entities, international organizations, academia, NASA Centers, and other government agencies. The information obtained will be used by NASA for planning and acquisition strategy development. Respondents may be invited to serve as consultants to the NASA SDT, which will bring together experts in various fields from the research community to finalize plans for the initial reference experiments to be sent into space.

NASA will use the information obtained as a result of this RFI on a non-attribution basis. NASA does not plan to respond to the individual responses. The Government does not intend to make an award on the basis of this RFI or to otherwise pay for the information solicited.
