SPACE WEATHER ADVISORY OUTLOOK #02- 41

2002 October 08 at 12:17 p.m. MDT (2002 October 08 1817 UTC)

**** SPACE WEATHER OUTLOOK ****

Summary For September 30-October 6

Space weather reached strong levels. The geomagnetic field reached
category G3 (strong) storm levels on October 1st, 2nd, and 4th.
Category G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storms were observed on September
30th and again on October 3rd. Category G1 (minor) geomagnetic storms
were observed on October 5th and 6th. The increased geomagnetic
activity was primarily due to numerous minor solar flares that occurred
on the sun over the past week. Radio Blackouts reached category R2
(moderate) storm levels on October 5th due to a moderately sized
energetic solar flare that occurred at 3:00 P.M., MDT on October 5th
(05/2100 UTC). Radio Blackouts reached category R1 (minor) storm
levels on September 30th, October 3rd, 4th, and 6th due to minor solar
flares on the sun. For a list of adverse system effects related to
space weather storms, please refer to the NOAA Space Weather Scales.

Outlook For October 9-15

Space weather is expected to reach the moderate levels. Category G2
(moderate) geomagnetic storms are possible early in the week, due to
the currently disturbed condition of Earthís magnetic field. Category
R1 (minor) radio blackouts are also possible.
