NOAA GOES SATOPS Morning Report – August 5, 2003 Day 217
DMSP
OPS48 rev 32680 R+07 from POGO-C 1356Z on August 4: Executed SCCR 48-101, steps 1-4, to modify
battery 1 charge timer limit on SCP 1 and 2.
All DMSP operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
POES
All POES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
GOES
A GOES-12 East/West maneuver will be conducted on Wednesday, August 6 at 0930Z.
At 1157Z on August 4, a GOES-8 safety monitor alarm sounded indicating an illegal instruction was
encountered on-board the spacecraft. The Reprogram Branch function on-board the spacecraft was
autonomously disabled as a safety feature on the spacecraft. At 1430Z, engineering restored the illegal
instruction counter and performed other commanding subsequent to the event. At 2230Z, operators started a
full processor dump to continue the fault analysis. (The dump was performed in three parts to accommodate
the Fairbanks 13-meter C X-band command tests.) Reprogram remains disabled as it is not currently needed
since GOES-8 is in a non-imaging status.
At 2052Z on August 4, a GOES-10 image was missed due to a late start on the daily SCC upload, partly as a
result of operational impacts with the other GOES spacecraft.
At 1515Z on August 4, a GOES-12 frame break was observed and attributed to loss of signal synchronization.
At 2146Z on August 4, a GOES-10 E/W maneuver was successfully executed.
At 0836Z on August 5, a GOES-9 frame break was observed and attributed to RFI (unknown).
GOES-8 continues its westward drift at 1.06 deg/day. The drift table with the estimated current position can be found at http://www.oso.noaa.gov/goes/GOES-8_Drift_Table.txt. GOES-8 will be stopped at 165E on or about August 24.
