NOAA GOES SATOPS Morning Report April 21, 2003 Day 111

OPS49 /rev 17305/ R+03/ HULA-A/ on April 19 at 07:18z: Spacecraft rose in basic attitude control mode with high pitch and yaw errors at rise. During support PRADS errors returned to normal limits. Investigation shows a bias shift in Gyro 3.
OPS49 /rev 17309/ R+07/ POGO-B/ on April 19 at 14:27z: Set BMODER to Basic Mode.
OPS48/ rev 31169/ R+09/ FBKS-B/ on April 19 at 17:29z: Fairbanks had tracking problems. There was not enough time to load Stored Command Table (SCT1).
OPS48/ rev 31170/ R+10/ FBKS-B/ on April 19 at 19:10z: Loaded SCT1. Scheduling reported that 2-line element sets had a bad checksum for OPS48 and NOAA-17.
OPS48/ rev 31172/ R+12/ FBKS-B/ on April 19 at 22:31z: Fairbanks noticed CH11 signal week suspects bad element-sets. User received noisy data.
OPS48/ rev 71133/ R+13/ FBKS-B/ on April 20 at 00:10: Fairbanks received new element-sets. CH11 and data signals strong.
All other DMSP operations were nominal over the past 72 hours.
POES
NOAA-17 rev 4257 / F at 0052z on April 20: Unable to command during monitor pass due to tracking problems associated with corrupted orbital elements at Fairbanks.
NOAA-17 rev 4258 / F at 0216z on April 20: Fairbanks obtained updated orbital elements resulting in nominal tracking and command capability.
NOAA-14 rev 42811 / F at 1729z on April 20: The 13 meter “A” antenna had problems auto-tracking during this pass and dropped track two times. The HRPT had two gaps in the data, one for 18 seconds and the other for 8 seconds. 91% of S3A and 87% of S1B were recovered.
NOAA-17 rev 4269 / F at 2110z on April 20: Once again the 13 meter “A” antenna had problems auto-tracking. The HRPT had a 30 second gap in the data, 79% of G1A was recovered and 85% of G3B was recovered. DTR management prevents a replay of G1A. Fairbanks investigating tracking receiver.
All other POES operations were nominal over the past 72 hours.
GOES
At 0730z on April 19, GOES-9 Sounder filter wheel out of sync. Per engineering direction both sounder filter wheel windings were turned on. Continue to monitor temperature.
At 1415z on April 18, GOES-10 Imager PACUS frame break, 45 scan lines lost due to IPS reset.
At 1352z on April 18, GOES-12 turned off DCPI and DCPR due to interference with GOES-8.
At 2200z on April 19, GOES-9 Imager and Sounder MMC is enabled as part of INR startup.
GOES-9 instrument contamination avoidance activities completed April 19. On April 19 at 1904z, a modified schedule started that contains 10 minute star window periods and images every 3 hours to facilitate INR startup activities. On Sunday at 1904z, a different modified schedule started that contains 6.5 minute star window periods and images every 1 hour to further the INR startup effort. Due to problems receiving enough stars for INR activity, today and tomorrow we will continue to use the modified schedule with a 6.5 minute star window. It is expected on Wednesday, April 23 at 1904z, the “routine” JMA support schedule will be started.
GOES-9 performance continue to be nominal. GOES-9 is currently at approximately 160.41 E drifting at a westward rate of ~0.716 degrees per day toward 155 E longitude where it will be stopped on April 25.
GOES-12 continues to drift at an eastward rate of ~0.33 degrees per day toward 75 degrees W until the stop maneuver is performed on April 26 at 0705z. Until GOES-12 arrives on-station, the GOES-12 will be retransmitted via GOES-8 (to minimize impacts to the users).
Keep-out-Zones (KOZ) operations for all spacecraft continue through day 116. Schedules for GOES-East and GOES-West (which can be used to track the day-to-day image deletions due to KOZ) can be found at: http://www.oso.noaa.gov/goes/koz-eclipse/koz-eclipse.htm
Major upcoming GOES milestones (Note: These dates are subject to change)
- April 16-19: GOES-9 GVAR begins, INR startup with a 0.7 deg/day drift
- April 22: Ancillary communication services (DCS, WEFAX, EMWIN, SAR) become operational.
- April 25: GOES-9 drift stop at 155 E
- April 26: GOES-12 stops at 75 deg W
- April 30: GOES-8 drift start westward from 75 W
