NOAA GOES SATOPS Morning Report – April 2, 2003 Day 092
GOES-12 is now operational as GOES-East. The transition (operationally and from a products perspective) was exceedingly smooth. Thanks to everyone involved and to GOES-8 for (almost) nine years of great support!
DMSP
OPS48 rev 30916 R+11 from FBKS-B at 2003Z on April 1: SCCR #48-102 was executed to load a QRC Table with commands to restack PR2 – will take effect on April 2 between rev 30929 (R+10) and rev 30930 (R+11).
All DMSP operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
POES
All POES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
GOES
At 1316Z on April 1, a GOES-10 frame break was observed and attributed to RFI (unknown source).
At 1814Z on April 1, the GOES-East mission was successfully transitioned from GOES-8 to GOES-12. GOES-12 will continue to drift at an eastward rate of ~0.33 degrees per day toward 75 degrees W until the stop maneuver is performed on approximately April 22.
At 1822Z on April 1, the GOES-8 storage heater 5 was turned on as per SCP to bring SARR temps back into green limits.
At 0836Z on April 2, a GOES-12 frame break was observed and attributed to RFI (unknown source).
GOES-9 is currently at approximately 171.9 E drifting at a westward rate of ~0.718 degrees per day toward 155 E longitude where it will support the GMS-5 replacement mission in April.
Eclipse operations for all spacecraft continue. Eclipse schedules for GOES-East and GOES-West (which can be used to track the day-to-day image deletions due to KOZ and eclipse) can be found at:

Major upcoming GOES milestones (Note: These dates are subject to change)
- April 15: GOES-9 removal from storage
- April 16-19: GOES-9 GVAR begins, INR startup with a 0.7 deg/day drift
- April 22: GOES-12 stops at 75 deg W; ancillary communication services (DCS, WEFAX, EMWIN, SAR) become operational.
- April 24: GOES-8 drift start westward from 75 W
- April 25: GOES-9 drift stop at 155 E
All GOES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
