NOAA GOES SATOPS Morning Report 18 August 2000
SATOPS MORNING REPORT – August 18, 2000
Operations were briefly handed over to the backup sites (CDAs and ESOC)
again today at approximately 11:10 EDT (or 1510Z) to accommodate a smooth
transfer from commercial to diesel generator power. This transfer
was made in response to a board failure of the UPS that supports operations.
No impacts to products are anticipated. A further precautionary power
down will be made later today once the board replacement arrives and is
swapped into the UPS.
GOES
No change in the status of the GOES spacecraft.
At 1035Z, 1048Z, 1104Z, 1120Z and 1150Z on Thursday, August 17, GOES-8
frame breaks were observed and attributed to high BER at the CDA (reason
unknown).
At 1130Z, 1120Z and 1630Z on Thursday, August 17, GOES-10 frame breaks
were observed and attributed to high BER at the CDA (reason unknown).
From 1654Z to 1802Z on Thursday, August 17, many frame breaks were observed
on GOES-10 subsequent to switching to the 13m “C” antenna due to insufficient
power levels on the antenna. The frame breaks cleared up once the
antenna was peaked.
GOES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
POES
No change in the status of the POES spacecraft.
The 24-hr SAIP testing with NOAA-15 successfully concluded on Thursday
evening. Due to much hard work and manual intervention on the part
of the controllers at SOCC, WCDA and FCDA, all the data was received.
During the SAIP test, the AVHRR was re-synched with the MIRP from ~1345Z
to ~2155Z. At 1834Z, AVHRR channels 2, 4, and 5 were disabled for
an expected duration of 24 hours as part of scheduled contingency testing.
POES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
DMSP
No change in the status of the DMSP spacecraft.
DMSP operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
