SATOPS MORNING REPORT – October 17, 2000

POES

No change in the status of the POES spacecraft.

NOAA-16 operations nominal.  Some additional HIRS and Macro enable
commanding occurred yesterday without incident.

NOAA-12 rev 48956 / W at 2302Z on October 16:  Due to 13M ground
system problems, L3B and  L4A were not received.  L4B was partially
recovered using the heritage equipment (70% of data received).  L3B
was recovered at Fairbanks during rev 48959.  Data from L4A not recoverable
on subsequent revs due to recorder management.

POES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.

DMSP

No change in the status of the DMSP spacecraft.

A Category-1 data loss was declared on OPS47 rev 28715 R+1:  After
two unsuccessful data ships to AFWA, it was discovered that AFWA was configured
for the incorrect site (FAIR vs. POGO).  The third ingest was successful,
but only after the data loss was declared due to the time delay.
This data loss was the first DMSP data loss in seven weeks.

DMSP operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.

GOES

No change in the status of the GOES spacecraft.

GOES-8 (East) Operations:

On October 15, the GOES-8 spacecraft completed the fall eclipse season
without incident.  Post-eclipse commanding occurred yesterday for
seasonal reconfigurations of fuel/oxidizer tank heaters.

GOES-8 East/West maneuver #32 is scheduled for October 25 (Day 299)
at approximately 1658Z.  The commanded thruster firing duration is
6.4 seconds.

GOES-8 images cancelled for KOZ – 0409, 0439, and 0509Z.

GOES-10 (West) Operations:

On October 16, the GOES-10 spacecraft completed the fall eclipse season
without incident.  Post-eclipse commanding occurred yesterday for
seasonal reconfigurations of fuel/oxidizer tank heaters.

GOES-10 East/West maneuver #14 is scheduled for October 24 (Day 298)
at approximately 1030Z.  The commanded thruster firing duration is
7.7 seconds.

GOES-10 images cancelled for KOZ: 0752, 0822 and 0852Z.

At 1426Z, 1430Z, 1726Z and 1923Z on Monday, October 16, GOES-10 frame
breaks were observed and attributed to RFI (unknown source).

At 1630Z on Monday, October 16, a GOES-10 frame break were observed
and attributed to antenna drift.

At 0122Z and 0539Z on Tuesday, October 17, GOES-10 frame breaks were
observed and attributed to high BER (unknown cause, but related to the
13C antenna).

The readiness of the HR1 and HR2 antennas remains an issue as refurbishment
activities are continuing.  The GOES-10 antenna support will be transitioned
from the 13C antenna to one of the HR antennas as soon as is reasonably
possible.

Storage Mode Spacecraft Operations:

GOES-9 and GOES-11 remain in the Z-Axis Precession (ZAP) storage mode
at approximately 105 deg W.

GOES operations were nominal over the past 24 hours.
