HOT SPOTS AROUND BAGHDAD

Hot spots (white) are visible throughout the Baghdad area. In this image, one channel (channel 3) is

sensitive to hot objects on the Earth’s surface. Here, the bright spots in the vicinity of Baghdad are

believed to be associated with reported fires in the area.

FIRES BURNING EASTERN INDIA

Heat signatures (red) and smoke (light blue haze) are visible from fires burning in eastern India in this

MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) image from the Aqua satellite. Smoke

(indicated by the yellow arrows) is faintly visible extending southwestward from a large blaze.
