An ash plume (indicated by the yellow arrows) is visible from an eruption of the Anatahan Volcano in
the Mariana Islands in this MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) image from the
Aqua satellite. The ash extends westward across the Pacific Ocean for hundreds of miles.

Tropical Cyclone 01B was located over the Bay of Bengal near 14.4N 86.0E at 06:00 UTC. The
storm has been moving northward at 6 knots with maximum sustained winds estimated at 50 knots,
gusts to 65 knots.
