NASA to Co-host Workshop on Planning, Scheduling for Space
Automated planning and scheduling for future space missions will be the theme of the Third International NASA Workshop on Planning and Scheduling for Space, Oct. 27-29.
Sponsored by NASA, the Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science and the Institute for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research, the workshop will be held at the Nassau Bay Hilton Hotel and Marina in Houston.
The missions that NASA is contemplating in the near future will require significant levels of autonomy over long periods of time. Central to this autonomy will be long-running planning and scheduling systems. The workshop will feature presentations and posters that describe deployed applications of planning and scheduling technology within space or space-relevant domains and papers that describe requirements for planning and scheduling in future missions.
Among the scheduled presentations are several from researchers at NASA Ames Research Center, including “Multi-agent Plan Execution and Work Practice,” “IDEA: Planning at the Core of Autonomous Reactive Agents,” and “Scheduling Earth Observing Fleets using Evolutionary Algorithms: Problem Description and Approach.”
Also featured at the workshop will be presentations by researchers from NASA Johnson Space Center, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Texas Tech University, the University of California at Berkeley, the Space Telescope Science Institute and Points of View Software, Ltd. Presentations are also scheduled by researchers from Honeywell Technology Center, the University of Rochester, the Italian National Research Council, SRI International and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, the University of Southern California and the University of Colorado.
