Approximately 40 percent of the healthy human population carries a common microorganism typically found in the upper respiratory tract.

Space Shuttle Endeavour rocketed into space with an experiment called Streptococcus pneumoniae Expression of Genes in Space (SPEGIS).

This experiment will investigate the effects of spaceflight on the bacteria.

More information about this experiment can be read here.
