HOUSTON – An extravehicular excursion is planned today. STS-134 Mission Specialists Andrew Feustel and Mike Fincke are slated to perform the second spacewalk of the mission to continue outfitting and maintenance of the space station complex.

Feustel and Fincke, their shuttle crewmates and station crewmember Ron Garan woke at 8:27 p.m. Saturday to “Il Mio Pensier” performed by Ligabue. The song was played for Roberto Vittori.

The spacewalk will begin shortly after 1 a.m. Feustel and Fincke will work on the station’s ammonia system, lubricate both the port Solar Alpha Rotary Joint (SARJ) and the Latching End Effector (LEE) of the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator (SPDM) robot. They will also install a cover on the robot’s Camera Lens Assembly and install two radiator grapple bar stowage beams. The spacewalk is expected to conclude around 8 a.m.

Commander Mark Kelly and Mission Specialist Greg Chamitoff will assist throughout the spacewalk, helping with suit up and guiding the two through their procedures. Pilot Greg Johnson and Expedition 27 Flight Engineer Cady Coleman will provide robotic arm support in the later portion of the spacewalk.

Meanwhile, Vittori will work on transfer and stowage. The Expedition 27 crew members will join in the afternoon for a “Change of Command” Ceremony in advance of the Monday departure of outgoing Commander Dmitry Kondratyev and Flight Engineers Paolo Nespoli and Coleman. Andrey Borisenko will serve as commander of Expedition 28, leading Flight Engineers Ron Garan and Alexander Samokutyaev.

Saturday afternoon, after completing a review of the focused inspection imagery, the Space Shuttle Program Mission Management Team announced Endeavour’s thermal protection system is cleared the vehicle for entry.

The next status report will be issued after the spacewalk, or earlier if warranted.
