In case you missed it: Research by NASA-funded PI Elison Blancaflor was featured on the
cover of the January 2018 issue of Journal of Cell Science, a
Special Issue on Plant Cell Science. The Cover note says: “Root hairs
are tip-growing cells that emerge from the surface of plant roots. By
increasing the surface area of the root, root hairs
play crucial roles in the uptake of water and nutrients from the soil.
Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (blue) is enriched at the apical-most
dome of elongating root hairs and was found to recruit the ARF-GAP
protein AGD1 to specific plasma membrane domains
of root epidermal cells where new root hairs form. See article by Yoo
et al. (http://jcs.biologists.org/content/131/2/jcs203828).” The image and note are available
at http://jcs.biologists.org/content/131/2.cover-expansion.

The
article is: Yoo CM, Naramoto S, Sparks JA, Khan BR, Nakashima J, Fukuda
H, Blancaflor EB. Deletion analysis of AGD1 reveals domains crucial for
its plasma membrane recruitment
and function in root hair polarity. J Cell Sci. 2018 Jan
