In case you missed it: On the June 16th edition of NPR’s Science Friday, researcher Michael Levin, Director of the Allen Discovery Center at Tufts University, joined host Ira Flatow to discuss Levin’s research about the effects of spaceflight on regeneration in planarian flatworms. One of the notable findings was the regeneration of a second head in one specimen. The episode can be found at The results of the study were published in the paper: Morokuma J, Durant F, Williams KB, Finkelstein JM, Blackiston DJ, Clements T, Reed DW, Roberts M, Jain M, Kimel K, Trauger SA, Wolfe BE, Levin M. Planarian regeneration in space: Persistent anatomical, behavioral, and bacteriological changes induced by space travel. Regeneration (Oxf). 2017 Jun 13;4(2):85-102. The paper is available online without charge. It appeared in SPACELINE Current Awareness List #747 on 5 May 2017, ahead of print.
