The NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) is in the process of planning a requirement entitled, “Research and Technologies for Aerospace Propulsion and Power Systems” (RTAPPS) to support Aeronautics, Communication, Structures & Materials, Space Power and Propulsion.

The objective of this proposed effort is to develop, demonstrate, and verify advanced propulsion system technologies as part of NASA’s on-going, long-term aerospace research programs addressing a wide variety of propulsion issues. Applications include subsonic, supersonic, hypersonic and rotorcraft transportation vehicles, safety and exploration applications.

To fulfill these requirements, NASA plans to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) in or about June 2009. This RFP will result in Multiple Awards to various contractors’ that can meet or exceed requirements in the following technology areas:

  • * Area 1: Subsonic Propulsion Systems
  • * Area 2: Supersonic Propulsion Systems
  • * Area 3: Hypersonic Propulsion Systems
  • * Area 4: Rotorcraft Propulsion System Technologies
  • * Area 5: Propulsion System Studies
  • * Area 6: Advanced Aerospace Materials and Structures
  • * Area 7: Advanced Propulsion Controls
  • * Area 8: Auxiliary Power Systems
