Description
NASA/JSC has a requirement for an outdoor teambuilding and supervised leadership expedition training course to provide the Astronaut Candidates with leadership, teamwork, and self care experience in a wilderness backpacking environment. The purpose is to expose the crewmembers to and have them practice the leadership, teamwork, and expedition behaviors that have been determined to be most desirable in spaceflight.
NASA/JSC intends to purchase this training from the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) on a sole source basis. NOLS is currently the only known source with the ability to meet our specific needs by providing a unique progression of leadership theory classes delivered entirely in remote wilderness.
NOLS offers teamwork and leadership training in a challenging outdoor environment and has the desired level of knowledge, expertise, and experience to conduct expedition and outdoor leadership training. NOLS offers the combination of remoteness and focused leadership skill development that provides distinct learning opportunities with synergies for teams facing extended space travel.
The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
