Description

NASA/ARC has a requirement for a digital video globe system known as Magic Planet. This system will allow the projection of Earth observing satellite data sets onto a globe in real time. Such data sets include global climate patterns and changes over time, real-time weather, natural disasters, etc.

NASA/ARC intends to purchase this digital video globe system from Global Imagination in Campbell, CA. NASA/ARC intends to buy one (1) 18″ sphere Magic Planet system with product set up and training for new personnel who will be using the item. This model will be used in the Exploration Center and will be taken to schools and community events to share information about NASA.

The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.

The Government believes Global Imagination is the only company that manufactures and sells Portable Digital Video Globe systems such as Magic Planet. NASA currently owns several such systems. This makes it easy to share data sets and NASA-developed “shows” between each NASA center, increasing the ability to share NASA’s information with the public. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. PST on Tuesday, August 9, 2011. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the government.

Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice.

All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.

NASA Clause 1852.215-84, Ombudsman, is applicable. The installation Ombudsman is Deb Feng. She can be reached at deb.feng@nasa.gov or 650-604-0256.
