Description
The award is the result of a proposal submitted by NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), with Atmospheric and Environmental Research, Inc. (AER) as a team member, entitled, “ASCENDS CarbonHawk Experiment Simulator (ACES),” 10-IIP10-0082 that was selected for award under NASA Headquarters SMD NASA Research Announcement (NRA) NNL10ZDA001N-IIP entitled “Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Science” – 2010 (ROSES-2010), Program Element A.35 Instrument Incubator Program. The contractor shall support LaRC in analyzing and comparing the in situ and remote Carbon Dioxide (CO2) measurements for GlobalHawk flight conditions; participate in the interpretation of the CO2 column measurements relative to CO2 fluxes; provide flight planning support for field experiment; and reporting the results to the atmospheric science community. The contractor shall participate in the development of simulation tools for assessing the performance of Lidar-based CO2 remote sensing instruments for GlobalHawk flight conditions, and retrieval algorithms for estimating CO2 column amounts from Laser Absorption Spectrometer (LAS) instrument data. The contractor shall analyze data sets from airborne tests of the payload. The contractor shall assist in the modeling of the payload, verification of the payload’s ability to retrieving the CO2 mixing ratio in the lower troposphere, and assist in the assessment of the payload performance for the ACES-IIP.
