NASA Selects Proposals to Provide New Insights from Openly Available Data
NASA’s Physical Sciences Research Program has selected five ground-based proposals in response to the research announcement “Use of the NASA Physical Sciences Informatics System – Appendix F,” which solicited proposals from established researchers and graduate students.
Researchers will investigate important problems in the areas of complex fluids, fluids physics and materials science – all with existing data from NASA’s Physical Sciences Informatics (PSI) system (http://psi.nasa.gov). The online database contains completed physical science reduced-gravity flight experiments conducted on the International Space Station, Space Shuttle flights, free-flyers satellites, commercial cargo flights to and from the ISS, or from related ground-based studies.
The Physical Sciences Research Program is managed by the Space Life and Physical Sciences Research and Applications Division in NASA’s Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate. The Physical Science Research Program furthers fundamental research, which investigates physical phenomena in the absence of gravity and fundamental laws of the universe, and applied research, which contributes to the basic understanding underlying space exploration technologies that will further our return to Moon and our journey to Mars and beyond. Both have led to improved space systems or new products on Earth.
