NASA ROSES-20 Amendment 10: A.7 Biodiversity Change in Due Dates and Requirements for the Number of ISS Instruments

Research supported by A.7 Biodiversity combines observations from satellites, airborne platforms, and in-situ sensors to explore biodiversity patterns in terrestrial, freshwater, marine, and airborne ecosystems. Understanding the processes behind these patterns along with the detection of finer-scale patterns typically requires either the direct integration of remote sensing observations with in-situ sensor data gathered across spatial and temporal scales or the application of various types of quantitative or qualitative modeling.

A.7 Biodiversity seeks two types of proposals. The first type asks proposers to combine measurements from selected instruments aboard the International Space Station and in-situ biodiversity observations to further understanding of the composition of life on Earth and how it changes over time.

The second type seeks proposals that combine satellite remote sensing and in-situ biodiversity observations to further understanding of the operational and/or the theoretical implications of combining observations at different spatial scales to further understanding of the composition of life on Earth and how it changes over time.

To enable the participation of the marine community that is challenged to use either GEDI or OCO-3 data, the prior requirement to combine observations from three of the four ISS instruments mentioned has been relaxed to at least two of the four ISS instruments mentioned in the call. This requirement change applies to all proposals. i.e., terrestrial, freshwater, and airborne proposals as well as those in marine ecosystems. The change appears in two places: subsections 2.1 and 3.5. New text is bold and deleted text is struck through.

The due dates are also changed. Notices of intent are now requested by May 27, 2020, and proposals are now due June 25, 2020.

On or about March 27, 2020, this Amendment to the NASA Research Announcement “Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) 2020” (NNH20ZDA001N) will be posted on the NASA research opportunity homepage at http://solicitation.nasaprs.com/ROSES2020 and will appear on SARA’s ROSES blog at: https://science.nasa.gov/researchers/sara/grant-solicitations/roses-2020/.
