Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is announcing opportunities to participate in Earth Science Enterprise research and development activities focused on Carbon Cycle Science. The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Biological and Environmental Research and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Services National Research Initiative are participating with NASA in this opportunity. Proposals to improve understanding of changes in the distribution and cycling of carbon among the active land, ocean, and atmospheric reservoirs are requested. Of special interest are the factors that affect changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and the impact of such changes on carbon management. Research is requested in four topical areas: (1) studies to be conducted as part of the North American Carbon Program, (2) global carbon cycle modeling and analysis focusing on use of remote sensing data, (3) regional studies outside of North America that provide critical understanding of and offer to reduce major uncertainties about the global carbon cycle, and (4) carbon management. Participation in the NRA is open to all categories of domestic and foreign organizations, including educational institutions, industry, non-profit institutions, NASA research centers, and other government agencies and laboratories. This solicitation will be available electronically on the release date via the Internet at the Earth Science Enterprise Home Page: http://www.earth.nasa.gov/ under “Research Opportunities.” Paper copies of the announcement will be available to those who do not have Internet access by calling (202) 358-3552 and leaving a voice-mail message. Notwithstanding the posting of this opportunity at FedBizOpps.gov, Grants.gov, or at both sites, NASA reserves the right to determine the appropriate award instrument for each proposal selected pursuant to this announcement.
